SAMPLE FOUR - TOPIC - Living/Lifestyle
Discuss the advantages of living in an apartment or a house. In your opinion which is better?
In many large cities around the world like Tokyo and New York, people have no choice but to live in an apartment. On the other hand, in Australia many families live in a house with their own garden. Both have their benefits. In my opinion and from my experience, living in a house is better for privacy and peace.
Living in an apartment has many advantages. Firstly, an apartment is smaller than a house so it is easier to clean and the utility bills are cheaper. However, you have to share spaces like corridors or car parks with other people, so arguments can occur. Not only do you share space, you also share walls or your ceiling is someone else’s floor, so the noise can cause conflict as well. On the whole, despite the advantage of being easy to clean and more affordable, there is less privacy and less peace living in an apartment.
In contrast, living in a house provides the residents with increased privacy and less neighbourly noise to contend with. Although there is a larger space to clean and a garden to look after on the weekend, people who live in a house can enjoy a quieter life with less intrusion or noise from next door. In addition, owning a dog is easier.
In short, the benefits of living in a house are far more than that of living in an apartment. Due to the increased privacy and decreased noise level, people all around the world dream of owning their own home.
