Task - a bookDescribe a book you are reading
You should say
and explain what you like about the book A model answerAt the moment I'm reading a book about books. It is called 'The Book Thief' and it is set in Germany in the 2nd world war. I guess it's about family and war and holding on to each other and your dreams. I haven't finished it yet, but I'm close to the end. It has taken me a long time to read this book because it is the first fully English novel I have read. So, often I have to stop and check the meaning of a word or an expression in the dictionary. That is a bit annoying, to be honest. I'm not sure if I like the book. The main character (a young girl) is a little strange and the story keeps getting interrupted by 'Death' which is weird as well. Of course, I want to know what happens to the girl and her friend, as well as the family that looks after her. So, in that regard I like the book because it keeps me interested. Also, I really want to finish it before I watch the movie.

Task - a teacherDescribe a teacher that influenced you
You should say
and explain how he or she influenced you A model answerOh, that's easy to answer. When I was in high school I had a teacher who was the Head of English. His name was Mr Thompson. He was also the teacher who organised and directed the school play every year. Every year I auditioned and 3 times I got one of the main parts in the play so I spent many long hours and even weekends with a small group of students and Mr Thompson practising for our performance. He was one of those teachers who inspired you but could still maintain respect from all the students. He didn't try to be your friend, but clearly everybody wanted to get to know him. Being involved in drama, he could also be funny and 'larger than life'. On sports days, he was usually the teacher with the megaphone, cracking jokes. As for his influence on me - I have kept a keen interest in acting and movie making, and I feel I can appreciate the effort that goes into making a dramatic performance successful. Also, he made school life fun and interesting. Some adults look back sadly on their school years, but thanks to Mr Thompson and other teachers like him, I can look back on my high school time with fondness.
